MJFF - "Hollywood and Hitler 1933-1929" w/author Thomas Doherty
Hollywood and Hitler 1933 - 1939 - author presentation
Brandeis University Professor of Film Studies Thomas Doherty presents a talk with film clips based on his highly acclaimed book. Recapturing what ordinary Americans saw on the screen during the emerging Nazi threat, Doherty reveals the influence of the disproportionately Jewish backgrounds of the studio executives. A proxy battle waged in Hollywood over how to conduct business with the Nazis, how to cover Hitler and his victims in the newsreels, and whether to address or ignore Nazism in Hollywood feature films. Would Hollywood lie low or sound the alarm?
Introduction by Ariel Rogers, Assistant Professor of Film Studies/ USM
