The Keene Jazz Orchestra invites you to brighten your holiday season spirits with the classic sounds of an authentic big-band swing dance. Fronting the band this year is KJO favorite Rebecca Holtz, presenting an evening of traditional Big Band Swing of the 1930s, 40s, and 50s including the music of Count Basie, Glenn Miller, and Benny Goodman as well as a variety of seasonal swingers and holiday classics.
Founded by Scott Mullett, the Keene Jazz Orchestra's mission is to perform, propagate, and provide education for American Big Band music. The 17-piece band is comprised of the Monadnock region's finest instrumentalists, educators, and students, and boasts a résumé of performances and collaborations with some of the greatest living performers and repertoire in big band music. KJO operates under the musical direction of founding member and bassist Steve Cady, who directs Jazz Ensembles at Keene State College, acts as Performing Arts Chair at Vermont Academy and performs and teaches regionally as a bassist and music educator. Rebecca Holtz was fortunate to grow up in the rich musical communities of Keene and Brattleboro. After a long stay in Oakland, California that included performances at SFJAZZ and many other musical adventures, she recently returned to the Greater Boston Area. Rebecca is building up a regular musical schedule again - stay tuned! Rebecca is thrilled to be back home among dear friends with KJO.
Music fans of all ages are welcome to dance and be joyful in the company of a live Swing Orchestra. Bar and food service will be available through Tempestas restaurant at the Best Western Plus, in Keene, NH.
