Songwriters in the Round
Date: Sunday, November 27, 2022

Time: 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM (Doors at 2 PM)

Please join us on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Hi-Vibe Holistics listening room for an intimate acoustic concert by four of the Outer Banks finest songwriters who will perform "in the round". Hosted by renowned recording artist/songwriter, Craig Honeycutt (Everything), this unique music performance will feature local songwriters Matt McGuire (The Barefeet & Company, The Wilder Brothers), Ben Saltzman (Stereo in Words), and Ruth Wyand. Feel the up close and personal atmosphere as they share their incredible musical gifts with a true sense of intimacy. Experiencing their music  and the inspiring stories behind the songs  in such a unique setting is truly magical.

The classic format of a round has four songwriters on stage. One performs a song, followed by the next writer, and the next, and so on. Each songwriter can join in with the others, add harmonies, contribute a guitar riff, or just listen. Writers talk about how and why they wrote the songs, and there are always lively stories and interaction between the writers. The format encourages conversation between the writers, which gives the audience an opportunity to hear these creative people talk as if in their own living rooms. Known as Nashville-style, this format is inspired by the guitar pulls of the legendary Bluebird Café in Nashville.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the OBX Room In The Inn, the local non-profit 501C3 organization whose mission is to provide hospitality, food, and shelter to homeless adults in the Outer Banks during the winter months and support services year-round.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. All seating is general admission. Light bites and unique mocktails will also be available.

Craig Honeycutt is the lead vocalist/guitarist for the band Everything. As much as it was an enigma in the age of Google, the Everything name encompasses the essence of the band perfectly. The music is an eclectic blend of pop, funk, rock, Americana, and soul, and it carries the message of what is universal about music. Aspiration. Movement. Elevation. Unity. It comes through in the lyrics and it embodies the experience. Really, its all about the Love.

Matt McGuire is a musician that sings from the bottom of his soul with his powerful vocals and life lesson lyrics. His songs are a soundtrack of a nomads life - a gypsy from Ripley West Virginia who has settled at the beach. His songs are a must have for any music lover that digs funky riffs and percussive strumming on his guitar. One listen to Going Under, New Sunshine, Stumble In June or Numb and you will be hooked on Matt McGuire and his true-to-self attitude.

Ben Saltzman is the songwriter and lead vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist for Stereo in Words, a local, original rock band whose music is heavily influenced by a shared love of the alternative indie rock of their youth. They made their debut at the Rock the Cape Art and Music Festival in Hatteras North Carolina, on June 2, 2021, and have been rocking the free world ever since with original songs including Never Been Down, which Ben self-describes as "if Chris Isaak had a lot of piercings", and Over and Under, which is about wonderful moments in time and being on the edge of the world and time while surfing. According to a recent article, "no matter the subject or tone, each Stereo in Words effort shares similar qualities -- rippling guitar riffs and melodic structures, dynamic movements and tight changes, heartfelt lyrics illustrated with dimensional imagery. And a distinct vision of how each note, beat and movement should sound."

Ruth Wyand plays a mix of americana, jazz, blues, folk, country with a portion of Piedmont picking and bluegrass clawhammer thrown in. Being diversified is her specialty as well as demonstrating guitar virtuosity with powerful fingerpicking, bottleneck slide and a warm alto voice. Her songwriting is universal, using a melting pot of styles with lyrics that are timeless, relatable, emotionally resonant, sometimes witty, sometimes serious but always human and genuine. Ruth presents a mixture of originals with poignant lyrics as well as well-crafted instrumental arrangements of classics ranging from Doc Watson, Etta Baker, Jimi Hendrix, Leo Kottke to Thelonious Monk and Nina Simone. Each song, no matter how different, has a firm Ruth Wyand stamp of style on it.
