Movie Club presents Babylon
Movie Club is a screening series that showcases films with a bold musical component, be it the score or subject matter. With sound being such a crucial aspect of the Movie Club experience, the event is hosted at a private DIY loft space decked out with an impressive audiophile speaker system.
On Thursday, September 29th, Movie Club is presenting its final film of the summer season: Franco Rosso's Babylon. Showcasing the lives of Black British youth in South London, Babylon puts UK sound system culture at the forefront of its drama. After premiering at Cannes' Critics Week in 1980, it was given an X rating and banned from screening in the U.S. until 2019 due to its incendiary-yet-accurate depictions of police brutality and racial violence. Well, light it up. Ever relevant and anchored by BIG chunes, Babylon brings to the screen all the energy and soul of the reggae and dub music it features.
Due to limited capacity, advance tickets will be sold on a first-come-first-serve basis. The exact Greenpoint location will be shared with ticket holders in the confirmation email.
