Matt Montgomery and Van Dyke Parks with Awesome Orchestra
Petty Troubles is a live orchestral pop album featuring the songs of Matt Montgomery, orchestrated by Brian Adam McCune, and produced by Brendan West. Petty Troubles is also the title of the companion documentary, directed by Isaac Pingree, that chronicles the process, perks, and pitfalls of recording an independent album live in one day with 30 Bay Area musicians. Though risky by design and imperfect by nature, we are extremely proud of the results. This concert will celebrate the release of this Album and DVD Documentary.
Van Dyke Parks (born January 3, 1943) is an American composer, arranger, producer, instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, writer, and actor. Parks is perhaps best known for his collaborations with musician Brian Wilson, and especially for his lyrical contributions to the Beach Boys' Smile project. Besides numerous collaborations with the Beach Boys, he has worked with such notable performers as Phil Ochs, Haruomi Hosono, The Byrds, Tim Buckley, Little Feat, Loudon Wainwright III, Rufus Wainwright, Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, Ry Cooder, Joanna Newsom, Grizzly Bear, Inara George, Silverchair, Three Dog Night, and Ringo Starr. In addition to producing other artists, Parks has released several studio albums of his own recordings: Song Cycle, Discover America, Clang of the Yankee Reaper, Jump!, Tokyo Rose, Orange Crate Art, Songs Cycled, and one live album, Moonlighting: Live at the Ash Grove.
