Concert for 202 with Tommy Emmanuel, Kim Parent and Jon Vezner
This intimate concert is a benefit to raise funds for Nashville's oldest meeting place for people who want to recover from alcoholism. All three of the performers are passionate about helping people with alcoholism find recovery, and are donating their time and talent for this concert. Homemade pie and coffee will be served.
Tommy Emmanuel is regarded as one of the greatest acoustic guitarists of all time. He is an Australian guitarist known for his complex fingerstyle technique, energetic performances, and the use of percussive effects on the guitar. Originally a session player in many bands, Emmanuel carved out his own style as a solo artist, releasing award-winning albums and singles. Guitar Player magazines readers poll named him "Best Acoustic Guitarist" in both May 2008 and 2010. In June 2010, Emmanuel was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia. In 2011, Emmanuel was inducted into the Australian Roll of Renown. Chet Atkins invited Tommy into guitarist knighthood by bestowing upon him the coveted title of CGP, Certified Guitar Player, an honor awarded only to four other humans ever.
Kim Parent found success as a songwriter beginning in the late 1990s and more success as a background vocalist in the studio with JoDee Messina, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Aaron Tippin, Reba, and many others. She sang with Brooks & Dunn for their final 6 years of touring, following that up by joining a 3 year tour with legendary pop artist Christopher Cross. She also found a home at the Grand Ole Opry as one of the house background singers, appearing there every month for 7 years with many legendary country artists.
Kims musical career spans 5 years of professional songwriting, 7 years at the Grand Ol Opry, 10 years of touring with nationally known acts, 30+ years of singing in studios, and over 50 years of performing live with her acoustic guitar as a journeyed singer-songwriter. She released her fifth CD project late summer of 2019 entitled Back to Love. It is a raw collection of songs which portray her personal experiences of recovery and redemption.
Jon Vezner, Grammy award-winning songwriter, is a tunesmith of sensitivity and dry wit. Vezner was honored with a Grammy for Best Country Song and the Nashville Songwriters Associations Song of the Year in 1990 for Whereve You Been", the true story of Vezners grandparents, co-written with Don Henry, and recorded by Kathy Mattea. Whereve You Been was also honored as Song of the Year by the Country Music Association (CMA) and the Academy of Country Music (ACM). Jons songs have been recorded by Martina McBride, Janis Ian, John Mellencamp, Nancy Griffith, Faith Hill, Clay Walker, Diamond Rio, and Native American recording artist Bill Miller. Other co-penned songs recorded by Kathy Mattea include: A Few Good Things Remain, Time Passes By, "Whole Lotta Holes, Slow Boat, Whos Gonna Know", "All Roads to the River, The Innocent Years", "Calling My Name", "Trust Me", and "Ashes in the Wind". Singles written by Vezner include: If I Didnt Love You by Steve Wariner, Has Anybody Seen Amy by John and Audrey Wiggins, Then What by Clay Walker, and Youre Gone by Diamond Rio.
