Old Time Fiddlers
Set the tone for the New Year by bringing the entire family to a rip-roaring Saturday night with the Old Time Fiddlers. These multi-talented musicians play fiddles, banjos, mandolins, guitars, piano, and almost every other musical instrument you can name.
Says Nancy Reynolds, one of the artists, 'Fiddling is like having a disorder. Once you start, you just can't stop!'
Nancy describes her fellow Old Time Fiddlers with enthusiasm. 'Ten-year-old Brandie Schaan is the youngest member of the group. She started studying violin at 3 and began fiddling two years ago. Boy, she can knock your socks off! Shes already recorded her first CD. Fran Judd started playing the piano at age 9 and the accordion at 12. Ray Sealing is an accomplished lead guitar player who can pretty much play anything he picks up. Marilyn, Rays better half, sure can play the upright bass. Don Poindexter has been playing the fiddle since he was 12 years old, and although he can be a little grumpy, there isn't anyone who can teach you more than Don. He learned to play by ear and can play anything he hears, if he wants to. I mentioned he can be a little grumpy at times!'
Also the president of the Arizona Old Time Fiddlers Association, Nancy adds, 'The Prescott Mile-High Chapter began a scholarship program for kids to take fiddle lessons. Ten are participating now, including Brandie, and these kids are doing great and sound wonderful. The program is funded totally by donations.'
A couple of years ago, Nancy, whos played the guitar for 35+ years, picked up a fiddle and fell in love. She was given an old fiddle that had been in its case untouched for many years. She stripped and restrung it herself and says it plays just fine. Added together, this group has more than 200 years of musical experience.
