Sarcassy Sneek's Seasonal Southside Soiree
Want to escape the winter blues, the shopping frenzies, the songs of Slade? Sarcassy has the cure .......... burlesque, cabaret and the down right bizarre. Back in The Shed with an xmas extravaganza of seductive, stirring, side splitting and slightly sinister guests. All proceeds will be going to the second Southside Fringe, a fortnight of arts and entertainment spanning the Southside in May 2014. Joining Sarcassy to celebrate the sensations of the season is a phenomenal line-up showcasing Southside talent by the spoonful, with The Creative Martyrs, Willie Dick, Raven Rose, GSR, Shakewell Tarts, Kevin P Gilday and Iain Ewing.
The Creative Martyrs The Creative Martyrs are a unique duo based here on the Southside. Rumoured to have been performing since 1883, they currently host a monthly eve in the Bungo 'Sinister Wink'. Gustav and Jakob harness the spirits of the music hall era and twist and turn them into a modern day audience interactive experience. Expect a bespoke seasonal serving. Not to be missed. "as a demonstration of the way cabaret's uniquely collaborative form functions as a microcosm of life, it's a provocative pleasure." - TIME OUT "The Creative Martyrs ...... an act seemingly designed by the Cabaret Gods for the hedonists of the Edinburgh Fringe." - FEST
Willie Dick Willie Dick is a Scottish vagabond creating musical mayhem with contact mics, meat cleavers and a butchers block. Weaving stories of pain and mistrust. Willie Dicks sound is like the final war cry of a man tittering on the edge of sanity. A man to capture all the insane sentiments of the season and exorcise your sinning souls, if he doesn't steal them that is. "The panting, psychotic, preacher-man does indeed have an exciting new product to sell. It comes with his personal guarantee to cure cure whatever ails you, there may however be side effects." - YOUR CRAP LOCAL DJ
Raven Rose Sarcassy is delighted to have Raven Rose back on the bill. A Southside sweetheart with a twist, will Santa visit? With years behind her as a professional dancer, Southsider Raven is developing a flirty tongue in cheek style which will delight and entertain for many years to come.
Kevin P Gilday A firm favourite from this year's Southside Fringe Kevin's spoken word show "Notes from a Quarter Life Crisis' went down a storm. Joining us to share some seasonal observations he describes his talent as "Poetry, rants, spoken words, songs, field recordings and general self aggrandizement."
Shakewell Tarts Molly Malibu and Miss Mitzi Mischief make up the Shakewell Tarts. Taught the art by the renowned Gypsy Charms, friends for years and love performing together as well as choreographing their routines and spending hours on end making their costumes. The Tarts love the comedy side of burlesque, always hoping to raise a laugh from their audience with their cheeky routines, and are recognisable for their 50s pinup look.
Executive Committee of The Greater Shawlands Republic Bruce Morton & Andrew Learmonth comedically campaign for a Southside independent of Glasgow rule, GSR - "A movement and a state of mind". Bringing their seasonal message to the downtrodden, the hopeful and the huddled. Never more relevant. "We aim to create not only the first independent republic within Glasgow's boundaries, but a truly funky republic. This can happen with the help and participation of you." - El Presidente
Iain Ewing Iain Ewing takes to the stage naturally and is equally comfortable lending his velvet voice to accompany big bands, impromptu rock numbers and singing the hits of a bygone age. Superbly talented and a lovely bloke with it, he'll be getting us all in the mood for the seasonal assortments ahead.
