Pola-Reds: Confections from the Edge is a photo-book of Polaroid images, self-portraits and documents of private performances, shot principally in the late '70s in San Francisco. In addition to more than 60 pages of full color images, there is a personal essay by the photographer and an afterword by Debora Iyall, vocalist with the band Romeo Void.

Pola-Reds: Confections from the Edge is in the libraries of Gay City Health Project and the San Francisco Art Institute.
Jack Johnston began using Polaroid film in the late 1970s to document his life and his private performances as a queer art punk. From a rarely-seen collection of hundreds of Polaroids, Pola-Reds: Confections from the Edge adds a chapter to the throng of books on San Francisco punk rock, a rare look not from the stage or the streets, but at home, in bedrooms and art studios.
