Eight Strings & a Whistle at Tenri 2013
Eight Strings & a Whistle returns to the Tenri Cultural Institute for its annual Fall concert in New York City with a trio of premieres.
Eight Strings & a Whistle will present the world premiere of Randall Snyder's "New Ghost Tones" and the New York premieres of John Newell's "and nothing remains the same" and "Conversations" by Robert Davidson.
A reference to the jazz practice of fingering silent notes, New Ghost Tones is an exciting, rhythmically intricate exploration of intervallic and dynamic extremes, including silence. The haunting and beautiful and nothing remains the same is a short work about change and the ephemeral nature of our world. In Conversations, Australian composer Robert Davidson pays tribute to his travels to India, the United States and Europe. The sounds of Sibelius, Bach, The Beatles, Methodist Hymns and Indian Kerala rhythms come together in a breathtaking joyous celebration of life. The program will also include the music of C.P.E. Bach and Peter Jona Korn.
