Inspirations: Acting Through the Senses (and the 5 Ws) for Kids Aged 9 - 12
A Fun New Hybrid Acting Course for Kids (Aged 9 - 12) with Ashlee Sales!

New to acting? An old pro? No fear, this class is for all levels of experience.  Through mindfulness practice, theatre games, and improvised skits, we will discover how actors use the five senses and the five W questions to develop their character and tell their story. Inspired by Viola Spolin and the book, Kids Take the Stage, students will develop foundational acting skills in a fun and collaborative setting.

Acting Through the Senses (and the 5 Ws)- Class Outline

Objective: To activate the 5 senses and 5 W questions. To use these 10 elements to develop character, explore relationships with other actors, and aid in physical storytelling.

What to bring: Water bottle, comfortable clothing and comfortable footwear.

Weekly Routine:
Each week the class will run from 10:00-10:50am on Thursdays.

10 Minutes- Group Warm Up/Mindfulness
10 Minutes- Ensemble Theatre Game
20 Minutes- Improv Skits, Theatre Games and Storytelling
10 Minutes- Sharing, Reflection, Next Steps

Class Outline:
Week 1:  Introduction, Building the Ensemble
Week 2:  Observing through the senses and asking questions
Week 3:  Experiencing sensory awareness and extending on the 5 Ws
Week 4:  Who am I? What am I doing?
Week 5:  Acting the Where and When
Week 6:  Exploring As If and Why?
Week 7:  Putting it together through storytelling
Week 8:  Putting it together through storytelling
