Sojourn Theatre's 2020 Teaching Artistry Summer Institute: Facilitation and Process Design for Teaching Artists
Join Sojourn Theatre artistic director Michael Rohd alongside Goodman Theatre's Willa Taylor for three days of strategies, frameworks and dialogue focused on the work of teaching artistry, facilitation and process design in theatre-based practice.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION: The Institute is Pay What You Can. The registration levels listed are to provide direction if you want/are able to pay. We know times are hard - FREE, or whatever is possible for you at this time, are both fine.
Limited openings - all availability is on a first come, first serve basis. We do not offer refunds; however, registration fees can be applied to future Institutes.
We ask that participants be available for all hours over those 3 days. Since we will be designing the process and crafting groups ahead of time based on participant numbers and durational presence, the flow of the three days cant support in and out participation.
We understand that childcare may be complicated at this time, this will be a kid-friendly space if having them with you in frame or nearby makes it more possible for you to attend.
INSTITUTE LEADERS: Sojourn Theatres Michael Rohd & Goodman Theaters Willa Taylor
SCHEDULE: June 9th - 11th : 8AM-2PM PDT, UTC-7
We will take a 1 hour break at 10:30 PDT, UTC -7 each day as well as additional short breaks throughout.
LOCATION: Online via Zoom
DETAILS: For the first time in 21 years of offering Summer Institutes, Sojourn Theatre devotes a three day session to teaching artistry with a focus on facilitation and process design. How do you co-create spaces that center equitable interaction, imaginative exploration, and critical thinking? How do you build inclusive ensemble that invites rigor, inquiry, and love?
Sojourn Theatre has been devising original work and leading process with youth and adults in distinct contexts for twenty years: documentary theatre about public education on the floor of a state legislature (Witness Our Schools); a site-specific adaptation of Brecht in a working Subaru dealership (Good); an interactive urban planning performance tackling gentrification at an international Arts Festival (BUILT); an immersive journey that brought urban and rural audiences across 50 miles to share a meal, conversation and a multi-generational tale of love and loss (On The Table); and a participatory civic theatre event that engages strangers in the act of deciding how to spend real dollars on poverty reduction in their own community (How To End Poverty in 90 Minutes).
Sojourn creates gatherings that act like shows, processes that move like art, engagement that listens like relationship, and workshops that feel like discovery. Join Sojourn Theatre artistic director Michael Rohd alongside nationally recognized arts and education visionary Willa Taylor (Goodman Theater Director of Engagement and Education) for three days of strategies, frameworks, and dialogue focused on the work of teaching artistry, facilitation, and process design in theatre-based practice.
