The Southern Colorado Film Festival seeks to relate the unique issues of our community in the San Luis Valley of Colorado to the world through the medium of independent film. Building off of the successes of the Alamosa Film Festival, we have organized this festival to use the power of film as a means of enhancing communication, enriching a sense of community and spirit, and bringing voice to important matters from around the world. Now in our inaugural year, we provide a venue for independent filmmakers to showcase their work and bring their creativity, viewpoints, and personality to a new audience.
From September 12th through the 15th in Carson Auditorium at Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado, the Southern Colorado Film Festival will feature unique independent film programming of a variety of types covering a variety of subjects. From animations to documentaries and nature to city life, the Southern Colorado Film Festival has independent film programming to match almost any set of interests.
The 2013 Southern Colorado Film Festival will take place at Adams State University in Alamosa, CO, home to Great Sand Dunes National Park, The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad and 300 days of a sunshine a year. A town of just under 10,000, Alamosa sits in the center of the San Luis Valley, the largest high Alpine Valley in the world. With Rocky Mountain panoramas to surround it, The San Luis Valley is home to diverse stories and history that make up a dynamic and vibrant community.
In an effort to reflect the issues pertinent to both our community and communities across the globe we have chosen the the theme LAND, WATER, COMMUNITY to represent this year's festival. In our rural region of Southern Colorado these concepts, both tangible and abstract, manifest as symbols of where we have come from and where we want to go. We are eager to see films that explore these issues and others.
