It's a Wonderful Life (1946) Film Screening + Post-Show Discussion (U rating)
In an age of intolerance, in which we seem to have forgotten the skills needed to live with people who are different from us, this film series is an opportunity to relearn them. Each screening will be accompanied by conversation and a little food. We will also be bringing relevant guest speakers who can offer some context for each film.
Let's Humanise each other.
With thanks to the support of Metal as part of their Time and Space residency programme.
This screening is happening because of a generous donation to the project from Liverpool Soup. If you have a community project that needs some funding consider pitching at this wonderful event. https://www.liverpoolsoup.co.uk/
About the Film Christmas isn't a great time for everyone, so come along and get some warmth, conversation and let's talk about what makes life worth living.
It's a Wonderful Life is a 1946 American Christmas fantasy drama film produced and directed by Frank Capra, based on the short story and booklet The Greatest Gift, which Philip Van Doren Stern wrote in 1939 and published privately in 1943. The film is one of the most beloved in American cinema, and has become traditional viewing during the Christmas season.
"It's a Wonderful Life is a pretty wonderful movie. Director Capra's inventiveness, humor, and affection for human beings keep it glowing with life and excitement." Time Magazine
[Features themes of suicide]
Why was it chosen for the series? Most of us have seen it many times, but the film asks the big questions about life that the Humanise Club is interested in. What do we mean to each other? Who is there when we need help? What is the reason to stay alive? We will get the chance to talk afterwards and to realise that (as we said before in club) we are not alone, even if it feels like we are. I can't wait.
About the location Screenings are in the Engine Room on platform one. Doors open 6pm, film starts promptly at 6.30pm (it's a long one) Each screening will be introduced by a relevant speaker. There is a wheelchair accessible entrance but please let us know if you have any questions about access. Screening will be shown with subtitles.
