Murfitt and Main with JA and The Other Guys - Cancelled
The Foothills Bluegrass Music Society is Proud to present Murfitt and Main and The Other Guys
Murfitt and Main
Murfitt & Main plumb the depths of country, bluegrass, and western swing, playing home-made songs steeped in the living tradition of roots music. Their original songs possess a clarity rooted in the musical traditions of rural North America, in a contemporary voice. Heartbreak, honky-tonks, whiskey, unions, religion, the Canadian terrain, and the Berlin wall are all fair game in their songwriting. Sweet vocal harmonies draw listeners in adding that high lonesome country sound to the mix.
Comprising the core of the band are the two song-smiths Warren Murfitt (guitar and vocals), and Kate Main (upright bass and vocals). Other musicians who add their considerable musical talents on frequent occasion: Chris Dawson-Murphy (banjo, guitar and vocals), Matt Kennedy (mandolin and vocals). Murfitt & Main make their home on the West Coast of Canada in Vancouver.
The Other Guys
Al LaMonaca
A Calgary-born musician and a mainstay of the Calgary bluegrass scene for decades, Al has been playing guitar, banjo and dobro in bluegrass bands, duos and trios including the Stray Dawgs, Rock Bottom, Hothouse Bluegrass Band (who opened for Alison Krauss in Calgary) and Wheatland County (kicking off the very first Edmonton Folk Festival in 1978) to name a few.
Jarred Albright
Jarred has played the violin since he was seven years old, making music his focus beginning with classical technique. Jarred embraced the fiddle as well, diving into Celtic, folk, old-time, and bluegrass before entering post-secondary to pursue jazz performance. In 2012 he and Ben Plotnick were awarded the 10k20 grant from Rawlco radio and their bluegrass duo recorded the self-titled CD Rye & Fairy Tales to much acclaim. These days Jarred is much in demand with both local and touring musicians.
Erik Smistad Erik is a Calgary-based multi-instrumentalist and fixture in the music scene, an active songwriter, arranger, session musician, performer and music teacher since 2010. Erik is known for his ability to play any style of music, but he is especially active in the bluegrass, progressive rock, soul and alternative rock genres.
