HOT JAZZ AT THE GALLERY: ALIVE AND KICKING with FRANK CATALANO & D'VONNE LEWIS
FREDERICK HOLMES AND COMPANY GALLERY has produced or hosted multiple jazz performances in the last few years, including being the VIP Venue for the late Paul Allan's UPSTREAM MUSIC FEST. But with the legendary Tula's Jazz Club closing this past September, we've doubled own on our commitment to keeping professional live jazz a vibrant part of Seattle's art & music culture!
We're honored to present one of the top sax players in the country - a frequent headliner at the aforementioned Tula's - recording artist and Grammy winner, Chicago-based FRANK CATALANO in a one-night show! Catalano has played with many of the musical icons of jazz including his mentor, DAVID SANBORN, along with STAN GETZ, TITO PUENTE, MILES DAVIS, and others, and has recently been performing with JIMMY CHAMBERLIN of SMASHING PUMPKINS. His recording "Bye, Bye Blackbird" with DAVID SANBORN, JIMMY CHAMBERLIN, NIR FELDER and DEMOS PETROPOULOS charted on Billboard and his "Love Supreme Collective" - an homage to JOHN COLTRANE - debuted at No. 1 on the iTunes Jazz Charts! He's played on 11 Grammy-nominated albums with JENNIFER LOPEZ, DESTINY'S CHILD, AND JOHN LEGEND and performed live on the OPRAH WINFREY SHOW with singer/composer SEAL.
Backing up Catalano will be Seattle-based 2018 Earshot Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year Award Winner, D'VONNE LEWIS on drums. Lewis is known to many in the Pacific Northwest jazz scene as the most respected and accomplished drummer in the region and is frequently the drummer of choice when visiting artists played at Tula's and other venues, including Catalano. Lewis has performed nationally including with WYNTON MARSALIS and The LINCOLN CENTER JAZZ ORCHESTRA. Known as a "Monster Stick-Man" Lewis' diverse range includes Funk, Soul, Hip-Hop, and Rock, and has performed with a range of top acts including New Orleans funk legend, GEORGE PORTER, Jr, SIR-MIX-A-LOT, and STONE GOSSARD of PEARL JAM!
Rounding out the sound will be Seattle-based musicians, JOE DORIA on the Hammond B-3 organ and COLE SCHUSTER on Guitar.
