Open mic (starts at 7pm) participants have 6 minutes to share. Original or non-original poetry, stories, performance art, music or songs welcome. Sticking to theme "Good Times, Good Friends" is encouraged. Teens and adults welcome. A spoken word feature (Thea Iberall) and music feature (The Millis-Berfield Band) start after the open mic. Medfield TV films event and posts to Youtube. All proceeds go to help maintain the Historic Meetinghouse.
The Millis-Berfield Band features three talented and fun performers whove been playing together for over five years. Their music is a diverse list of covers and originals. Ken Porter (singer and percussionist) has opened for Dave Loggins and performed numerous times with Pete Seeger, The Kennedys, Kate Campbell, and many others. Bo Veaner (guitar and songwriter) was the lead guitarist and backup vocalist for Gerry Wasserman and The Great Experiment. John Zaia (violin, bass) is a classically-trained musician who has worked with Carolyn Waters. "Uplifting and thoughtful songs; wicked tight harmonies. You'll love them." "A refreshing blend of originals and folk-rock classics, performed with gusto but without bombast. Their whole is more than the sum of its parts; their harmonies are a treat!"
Thea Iberall has been called a shimmering bridge between heart and mind. She has been doing performance poetry and storytelling since 1998, representing LA at the National Poetry Slams. An inductee into the International Educators Hall of Fame, she is featured in the documentary Poets, Passion and Poetry. OC Weekly said "Iberall tells narrative stories using simple words that mask hidden layers of meaning and emotion." She has featured at almost 100 venues including StorySpace, Open Spirit, Amazing Things Art Center, Limmud, Worcester State University, and Berkshire Festival of Womens Writers. "Thea is the dream house at the four-way intersection of storytelling, poetry, science and spirit she breathes grace into every evocative piece that leaps to life from her heart and mind to yours."
