Woman Scorned
"Fiery Chicago mezzo" Angela Young Smucker has been praised for her "rich, secure mezzo-soprano" by the Chicago Tribune and her "show-stopping" voice by The St. Paul Pioneer Press. She makes her debut with Les Délices in Woman Scorned, a program of wild, descriptive music depicting temptresses and jilted lovers Circé, Phèdre, Armide, and Medea.
Featuring: Angela Young Smucker (mezzo-soprano), Debra Nagy (oboe), Julie Andrijeski (violin), Emily Walhout (viola da gamba), Michael Sponseller (harpsichord)
Angela Young Smucker's performances in concert, stage, and choral works range from J.S. Bach to William Bolcom. Past season highlights include performances of rarely heard Handel cantatas and Purcells' Dido & Aeneas (Sorceress) with the Haymarket Opera Company, appearances with Grammy-nominated ensembles Seraphic Fire and Conspirare; collaborations with the Newberry Consort and Bach Colleguium San Diego; and a residency as a Virgina Best Adams Master Class Fellow at the Carmel Bach Festival. Ms. Smucker has appeared under the batons of renowned conductors Helmuth Rilling, Hermann Max, and Philip Brunelle, and has been heard on Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion and WFMT's Impromtu.
