For PIANO TALES Nos. 18, 19, and 20, James & Jerome return with new tales in all new venues.

We've partnered with some of our favorite people, places, and pianos in New York City. Each show will take place in a different location, which will inform that evening's selection of tales and inspire drinks and snacks created especially for PIANO TALES by Lot 2 (Owner/Chef Daniel Rojo and Owner/Bar Manager Dawn Kinstle).

The audience will choose which three tales out of a possible ten will be told, and in what order. Then, through improvised storytelling and piano-playing, James & Jerome tell those tales in a different way than they ever have before, discovering a totally new show right along with the audience. No two performances of PIANO TALES are the same.

PIANO TALES is written, composed, and performed by James Harrison Monaco & Jerome Ellis and directed by Andrew J. Scoville. It has been performed seventeen times at venues including La MaMa, Joe's Pub and the Public Theater, Lincoln Center, and MASS MoCA.

PIANO TALES No. 18 | Thursday, August 29 at 8pm
Private apartment
(Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn -- ticket buyers will receive address prior to event)
The performance space is the living room of a brownstone. Audience members will need to go up a small flight of stairs to reach the top of its stoop. The living room is on the ground floor, and all audience members will be seated for this performance.

PIANO TALES No. 19 | Friday, September 6 at 8pm
(55 East 11th Street between Broadway & University)
The performance space is the storefront of a flower studio. Most audience members will stand for this performance (but there are plenty of things to lean on!). Seating is limited; please email hello@3rdplaceprojects.com if you have any questions or would like to inquire about reserving one.

PIANO TALES No. 20 | Tuesday, September 10 at 8pm
New York Theatre Workshop, Rehearsal Studio
(83 East 4th Street b/w 2nd Ave & Bowery)
The performance space is a rehearsal room on the third floor of a building, so audience members will need to go up two flights of stairs to reach it. All audience members will be seated for this performance.

Written, composed, and performed by James Harrison Monaco & Jerome Ellis

"James and Jerome are amongst the most original musical storytellers working today. They are both wonderful performers, but this is a separate matter from the quality of their writing, which has incredible intellectual, aesthetic, and emotional integrity." - Rachel Chavkin, TONY Award-winning director of Hadestown

"Telling stories can be a tricky act, especially more literary ones, as they can fall into the trap where the words just don't sound as nice spoken aloud as they would sitting on a page to be read. Luckily, the duo James Harrison Monaco & Jerome Ellis (or more simply, James & Jerome) manages to escape this trap entirely. Their tales run the gamut, going from more casual quips to poetic poignance in a matter of minutes and transforming a simple stage into space for transformation using only words and music." - Cassidy Dawn Graves, Bedford & Bowery

"They're real nerds." - Mark Russell, AM New York
