BASIC OVERVIEW

The Fleeing Artists Theatre is producing staged readings of four original, never-before-seen plays, written by local and regional playwrights.   For this set of performances, we are performing two of the plays: "Built of Ivory" by Pharyne Stephney Gremore, and "Secre(a)ts" by Kameron Schueneman.

"Built of Ivory" PLAY DESCRIPTION

Eleanor is a biracial college dropout who has sacrificed her dreams to take care of her dying mother, but the real trouble begins when her white half-brother unexpectedly comes home after nine years.  Any attempt to rebuild their fragile relationship quickly comes to a halt when Patrick learns that Eleanor has been receiving phone calls from her biological father, and is considering meeting him for the first time.  Convinced that her father is the reason for their family dysfunction, Patrick reopens old wounds.  But as the siblings fight the odds to stand together, their parents' secrets continue to divide them on life, love, and the racial tension that has always loomed between them. Directed by MOISES DIAZ.

"Secre(a)ts" PLAY DESCRIPTIONn:

The Fosters are the perfect, loving, normal family: or so it seems.  A story of innocence, crisis, and vulnerability, this show follows 9-year-old Mia's journey through childhood, not aware of the problems others in her family face.  Her distant mother, Anna, struggles to connect with others; her father, Ed, tries desperately to keep his crumbling family together, while still coping with a problem from his past.  But foremost, this light-hearted drama explores the life of Victoria, Mia's older sister, who, compared to the rest of her family, faces the most brutal obstacle of all: an eating disorder.  Told through the lens of an innocent child and struggling father, this play attempts to captivate its audience with its realistic character portrayals and important message.  Directed by JODI DIDERRICH
