On Thursday, May 9 at 7:30 pm, Third Presbyterian Church and its co-sponsors will present the Schola Antiqua of Chicago in an interfaith concert in the sanctuary of Third Church. Titled Sounds of Faith in Medieval Jerusalem, the concert presents an acclaimed soundscape of sacred and devotional song developed for The Cloisters at New Yorks Metropolitan Museum of Art. This one-hour program brings medieval traditions to life with sounds of status quo and religious change in and around Jerusalem. The vocalists of Schola Antiqua are joined by special guests Amro Helmy, oud, and soprano Nell Snaidas. The presentation of sacred music includes Georgian and Armenian hymns; Sufi devotional music; and Jewish, Christian, and Muslim calls to prayer.
The Schola Antiqua of Chicago is a renowned American ensemble that specializes in the performance of medieval vocal music, and this performance offers a rare opportunity for the Rochester faith community to share in a rich experience with a mix of music of many faiths, all emanating from medieval Jerusalem. The artistic director of the Schola Antiqua is a member of the musicology faculty at the Eastman School of Music, Michael Alan Anderson. More information about the ensemble can be found at https://www.schola-antiqua.org/
Please note - Children 12 & under will be admitted for free at the door when accompanied by a paying adult.
