"Second Looks" Artist Series Dinner Concert, presented by Open Classical
"Second Looks" Artist Series Dinner Concert, presented by Open Classical features Mark Landson, violist/violinist and Director teaming up with pianist Evan Mitchell on a special program featuring two great works that benefited from second looks.
Rebecca Clarke was a violist and composer whose beautiful melodic impressionism earned her a tie in a prominent 1919 composition contest, and caused a scandal when it was revealed she was a woman. Afterwards, her Sonata for Viola and Piano was forgotten until rediscovered in the late 1970's. Now it is one of the most performed large works for viola and piano.
Johannes Brahms' Piano Trio #1 was a great early success for the composer, written when only 20 years old. He later completely revised and re-composed it in his fifties, which has since made it known as one of the most great masterpieces of classical chamber music. Cellist Matt Epperson joins in his Artist Series debut.
A specialist in bass comedic operatic roles, Travis McGuire (Dallas Opera) joins in an entertaining night that will range from the ridiculous to the sublime.
Enjoy this final concert of the season over a cozy Italian dinner at MoMo's in the Quadrangle.
Tickets are $20 plus dinner. (Dinner paid to MoMo's at the end of the concert)
