The Santa Cruz Institute of Contemporary Art presents an evening of compositions by Grammy award-winning Barry Phillips. Barry writes music that blends the realms of classical & folk to create a beautiful sound that is uniquely his own. He has performed and collaborated with such diverse artists as Ravi Shankar, Anoushka Shankar, Martin Simpson, the poet Coleman Barks, the British rock group Camel, and has recorded and produced albums for the Gourd Music label for 25 years. Barry has performed in concerts all over the world, including Sydney Opera House, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Royal Albert Hall in London as part of the Concert For George (the memorial concert for George Harrison). He received a grant from the Creative Work Fund in 2010 to compose music combining elements of Indian and western classical music, which was performed by the Santa Cruz Baroque Festival, and will be released as a live concert album in October 2013 on East Meets West Music. Barry records, produces, and writes music "under the radar" at his private music studio in Santa Cruz, and is a favorite cellist and string arranger for singer-songwriters and musicians of all genres around the Bay Area.
