Simons and Goodwin at Along the Way Coffeehouse
For those of you who have spent some time visiting acoustic music venues along the Maine coastal areas, you may have had the good fortune to attend a performance of this polished duo in their primary habitat. Along The Way is pleased to be able to present them to our North Shore audiences this Fall.
Covering a wide variety of Americana music including soft rock, country, blues, pop standards and both traditional and contemporary folk, the tight harmonies of Bob Simons and Renee Goodwin, backed up by Bob's skillful six string acoustic guitar playing keeps their audiences anticipating the next song.
Friends and independent performers since the early days of the Folk Music Boom in Cambridge and Boston, Bob and Renee formed the team of "Simons and Goodwin" in 2006, and have been delighting audiences in pubs, coffee houses, at indoor and outdoor concert venues, and private gatherings since then, predominantly in mid coastal Maine, and only now and then working down into our North Shore Area . In the early days of the 1960's, Renee joined forces with Bill Staines for about a year as the group "Bill and Renee", and the two, joined by John Synnott cut one album, "Bag of Rainbows", now a collector's item. Moving back to her hometown of Augusta, Maine in 1969, Renee settled down to raise a family, while continuing her singing career in coffee houses, taverns, and theaters throughout the area. Bob began a solo singing career in the Boston venues of "The Sword and Stone", "The Turk's Head" and others, and was a frequent performer at "The New World Gallery" in Portsmouth, NH, and at "The King's Rook" in Ipswich. Joining up with long time friend Jim King, the two formed the group "The Watkins Marsh Bumppe Shoppe", performing actively throughout the area. The first to perform at the then new and now widely known and loved coffee house, "The Me & Thee", in Marblehead, they have released one album, "Bumpper Croppe". Bob also joined "Frosty Morn" with Jon Roper and Myra Franks, performing together into the 90's and releasing an album "Thin Ice". In recent times, Bob has returned to his days as a song writer, now listing over 50 songs, and has recently released a fine CD of his material called "Falling Through The Years".
