CRAZY LOVE | Los Angeles Chamber Singers Sextet | Peter Rutenberg, Music Director
SUSAN JUDY, ADRIANA MANFREDI, FLETCHER SHERIDAN, TIM GONZALES, DANIEL CHANEY, MARK SUMNER
A virtuoso collection of madrigals and part-songs from 16th-century Europe for four, five and six voices the first of two programs in our Spring Festival 2013 recalls the gamut of expression on the topics of love, lust, and longing, as well as gossip, messy break-ups, and with three excerpts from The Triumphs of Oriana a glorious homage to Queen Elizabeth I as the grand finale. As an added bonus, three motets written in a 'madrigalian' style comprise the centerpiece of the program, with music by Orlandus Lassus (In hora ultima and Timor et tremor) and Salamone Rossi (Psalm 128). The unmistakeable elegance, wit and charm for which the Renaissance is justly famed casts each of these works in high relief. Thomas Morley, William Byrd,John Wilbye, Michael East, Thomas Weelkes, Claude Le Jeune,Claudio Monteverdi, Lassus, Pierre Certon, Orazio Vecchi,George Kirbye, and George Marson are the featured composers.
