In Praise of Music
The Bellingham Chamber Chorale celebrates the conclusion of its tenth anniversary season with a concert entitled "In Praise of Music" at First Presbyterian Church, 1031 North Garden Street, on Saturday, June 8, at 4:00 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, and $5 eighteen and under. Tickets can be purchased in Bellingham at Piper Music, Village Books, and The Community Co-op at brownpapertickets.com and at the door. For more information visit www.bccsings.org or call 206-438-3927.

BCC has chosen a program ranging from the Renaissance to modern times with choral music in praise of music, overflowing with gratitude and joy, inspired by the interplay of poetry, drama, dance and song. The concert features Norman Dello Joio's homage to the patron saint of music, "To Saint Cecelia" for mixed chorus, piano and brass ensemble; Elliott Carter's "Musicians Wrestle Everywhere" to Emily Dickenson's poem of the same name; Stephen Chatman's song cycle "There is Sweet Music Here" for mixed chorus and oboe, to poetry by William Blake, Percy Shelly and Tennyson; plus a variety of other choral selections from the fanciful to the sublime.

"In Praise of Music" showcases the full range of Bellingham Chamber Chorale's artistry and the beautiful acoustics of First Presbyterian Church," says Ryan Smit, BCC Artistic Director and conductor.  "From playful dances to thoughtful contemplation, from subdued quiet to regal majesty, "In Praise of Music" celebrates the rich tradition of composers throughout the ages writing odes of praise, exploring our deepest and most intimate emotions through choral singing. Keeping with the theme of the concert, the Chorale will perform Handel's 'Music, Spread Thy Voice Around' from Solomon oratorio, David Dickau's "If Music Be the Food of Love', and Lowry's 'How Can I Keep from Singing?' arranged by Karen Thomas, artistic director of Seattle Pro Musica.

"This season Bellingham Chamber Chorale has celebrated ten years of creating excellence in choral performance," said Roger Clark, President of the Board of Trustees and choir member. "Since our founding in 2003 by Tim Fitzpatrick and now completing our second year of under Artistic Director Ryan Smit, Bellingham Chamber has flourished as an intimate, chamber chorale of high quality regional singers presenting diverse and challenging repertoire for its growing audiences. Ryan Smit's experience with the Grammy-award winning Phoenix Chorale, coupled with the robust choral program he has developed in Lynden is continuing Tim Fitzpatrick's legacy of high quality, ground-breaking and heart-moving choral music in the north Puget Sound. Thanks for a successful 2012-2013 concert season, and hope community members join us for our June 8 spring concert."
