VAYA - Presented by Sankofa Film Society
Paying homage to the Tsotsitaal namesake meaning to go, VAYA chronicles the innocence lost by three young South Africans who journey away from their rural homes on a train bound for Johannesburg. Stirring and suspenseful, director Akin Omotoso intertwines stories of strangers struggling to survive that culminate in an explosive moment based on real accounts. VAYA made its world premiere at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival and garnered Omotoso the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Director.
Sankofa Film Society is proud to bring director Akin Omotoso to Seattle for the post screening discussion.
