DUST + 21 X NEW YORK
Documentary DUST - PROCH 2017, 25 min, Poland Polish with English subtitles dir. JAKUB RADEJ Dust is a study of the road that every human body must take that begins with the moment of death and ends with the funeral. In Jakub Radejs film, the consecutive stages of this journey (mortuary, morgue, and cemetery) are juxtaposed with the bureaucratic accounting and disposition of the property of the deceased. This cool recording of the fate of material objects that had belonged to the deceased is presented in an open form, which suggests questions about the meaning of life, and it reflects on the loneliness of people who have no one to bid them farewell.
21 X NEW YORK - 21 X NOWY JORK 2016, 71 min, Poland Polish with English subtitles dir. PIOTR STASIK In spite of advances in communications tools, humans are becoming lonelier. The director captures this paradox by exploring the stories hidden behind the faces of 21 characters on the New York subway. The result is a film essay about the search for meaning in life. At the same time, it becomes a hypnotic portrait of a city where points of view, cultures, and races meet although individuals become increasingly estranged.
