You are invited to join Friends of Gilda's Club Memphis for a private, premier showing of Love, Gilda on Thursday, September 20.
Gilda Radner puts a smile on the faces of people who remember watching her as one of the original cast members of Saturday Night Live, where she created and portrayed such now-classic comic characters as Roseanne Roseannadanna, Emily Litella and Lisa Loopner. She quickly rose to spectacular fame in television, movies and on Broadway, and was declared one of Americas sweethearts.
Love Gilda, a documentary on Gilda Radner that utilizes a collection of diaries and personal audio and videotapes documenting her childhood, her comedy career, her relationships and ultimately, her struggles with cancer is being released. Friends of Gilda's Club Memphis has arranged for a premier showing of Love Gilda in the Ridgeway Cinema Grill Theater on September 20th, one day before the movie is released to the general public.
Love Gilda, directed by Lisa DApolito, is a true autobiography. In her own words, comedienne Gilda Radner looks back and reflects on her life and career. Weaving together recently discovered audiotapes, interviews with her friends, rare home movies and diaries read by modern day comediennes (including Amy Poehler), Love Gilda offers a unique window into the honest and whimsical world of a beloved performer whose greatest role was sharing her story.
Gilda's Clubs were created in honor of Gilda Radner. The first club opened in New York City in June 1995. Gilda's Club Nashville, established 20 years ago was one of the original clubs. In 2016, Laurel Niday, a local ovarian cancer survivor, visited Gilda's Club Nashville and soon after began work to establish a Gilda's Club in Memphis.
Join us for a look back in time and to share an opportunity to bring social and emotional support to those impacted by cancer in the Memphis Community.
All proceeds will be used to provide community education and help support our start-up campaign to open Gilda's Club Memphis. Friends of Gilda's Club Memphis is a 501(c)(3) organization. All gifts are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
