Fifth House Ensemble "Degenerate Art"
Praised by the New York Times for its conviction, authority, and finesse, the Chicago-based Fifth House Ensemble harnesses the collaborative spirit of chamber music to reach beyond the traditionally-perceived limits of classical music.
Delving into music that was censored, banned, and propagandized as degenerate, Fifth House Ensemble will shed new light on works by artists facing oppression under three different regimes: Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, and the dark days of McCarthyism in the United States.
There will be a pre-concert talk with the artists for ticketholders at 6:45 PM, and a post-concert talk following the performance.
This event is co-sponsored by the Kalamazoo College School of Music.
This presentation is supported by the Arts Midwest Touring Fund, a program of Arts Midwest that is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, with additional contributions from Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Crane Group.
