FiddleJazz: A Celebration of The Violin In Jazz Part 3
Jazz? On the violin??? The violin was hugely important to the development of jazz and African American music at the beginning of the 20th century. The earliest New Orleans bands were often led by violinists, and the violin was there for every major development in the genre. Come hear the music and discover the sounds of the violin in jazz and discover the importance of it's players - this time in developments from 1960 on - covering the developments from Ornette Coleman through Jean Luc-Ponty and contemporary jazz from Regina Carter to Scott Tixier!
This is the 3rd in a series of THREE concerts in support of Kit Eakle's course "The History of Jazz Violin," at SFU, but it is open to the public!
The concert will feature Michael Dunn, guitar and Joe Bourchier, bass along with special guests!
A great evening of eclectic jazz for all!
