Urban Fado meets Homenagem Brasileira
Vocalist Sandy Cressman and Bassist Mary Ann McSweeney are excited to be performing music from both of their latest CD projects. They met a few years back when McSweeney played bass for the Bay Area vocal group Pastiche and have continued their careers on opposite coasts. Cressman has been a mainstay in the Bay Area, pursuing a love for Brazilian music that has led her to perform and record with artists such as Jovino Santos Neto, Spok, Akira Tana, Branford Marsalis and Arturo Sandoval. McSweeney has been a freelance bassist in New York City, playing for such artists as Lee Konitz, Donny McCaslin, and Jane Monheit, along with performing on many Broadway shows. Both are involved in jazz education on their respective coasts: Cressman teaching at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley, California; McSweeney teaching at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. Cressmans latest CD Entre Amigos merges beautiful Brazilian melodies and great grooves, composed and recorded with a host of contemporary Brazilian music colleagues in Brazil and in the U.S. McSweeney dedicated her Urban Fado album to her Great Great Grandparents who immigrated to California from Portugal. They will be combining their talents, and are excited to play music from both of their recent projects at Oaklands Sound Room with Jeff Cressman on trombone, Ricardo Peixoto on guitar, and Dillon Vado on drums.
