Frontman of Seattle-based Flowmotion, Josh Clauson has returned to his acoustic roots with the creation of a dream-folk album, Driftless. A first-time collaboration with his wife Genevieve, Driftless is a heartfelt record drenched in dreamy melodies and powerful lyrics. Featuring accompaniment from The Shook Twins, Calm Israel, as well as Aaron Guest and Jeremy Elliott from the band Polecat, this release is one of Clausons finest works. Recorded and co-produced by Michael Iris at Bell Creek Studio, Driftless is now available everywhere.
The Sky Colony are an atmospheric rock group wholeheartedly focused on what matters most to them: creating music, and more importantly, their intention behind it. Since their formation in 2012, the story behind their sound has organically grown into one of personal empowerment and discovery. Along with complex instrumental layering, intricate harmonies, catchy hooks, and classic guitar solos, you have a complete experience of Skagit Valley, Washingtons own, The Sky Colony. The Pacific Northwest, namely Skagit Valley Washington, has always been home to this band. They have taken their show around Washington State, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, northern California, and Oregon. They have performed at festivals in Oregon and Washington, such as Britt Festival, Subdued Stringband Jamboree, and Summer Meltdown. They have also opened for bands such as The California Honeydrops, Shook Twins, Johanna Warren, Fruition, and Ha Ha Tonka. The Sky Colony's songs are a simple blend of melodies and complex harmonies. Its a mixture of the call of the Cascadian wilderness and an the 60's psychedelia era (Tom Franks, Folkwords UK). Time upon time it has been deemed unique. They create a sound of "luminous spirituality that sets a fire in the mind" (Scot Casey, Whats Up Magazine). Their first full-length album "In A Dream" was released in February, 2015, and featured Molly Hazel on banjo, vocals, and bass. This record was publicized by Sue DuMond, with independent radio play at stations worldwide. Music critics were astounded at the a lack of special effects, just pure musicianship. (John Apice, No Depression) The Sky Colony began in 2012 with singer-songwriter and guitarist Kyle Findley-Meier, and lead guitarist Ben Meyer. The two consistently wrote original music and began performing in small singer-songwriter venues. Eventually, Jeff Lacy was added on drums, and the trio began to perform slightly larger venues. The band continued to develop their style and write original music. They went on to collaborate with Andy Ingram on upright bass, and Molly Hazel on Banjo. Their style matured into a genuine sound that was termed dream folk. In Fall of 2014 they began recording their debut full length album In A Dream at Unknown Recording Studio in Anacortes, Washington. In winter of 2017, The Sky Colony had some rearranging of band members. Molly Hazel and Andy Ingram moved on to other projects and life interests. Therefore, Kyle, Ben, and Jeff decided to rebuild by adding Marcus Nevitt on lap steel and keyboards, and Henry Smartt on bass. Throughout the following year they performed more than fifty shows all over Washington State, and continued to craft their sound into an atmospheric, layered, and lyrically meaningful sound. They performed with related artists such as Shook Twins, Polecat, and Kuinka, and used Jeffs home studio to write, record, and enhance their music. In August of 2017, Henry went onto school at Berklee College of Music. Since then, the band has been looking for a consistent member to play bass. Now, in 2018, they plan to release digital singles on Spotify; followed by summer concert appearances around the Pacific Northwest. In the fall of 2018, they plan to begin working on recording their follow up full length album.
