Resonance Women's Chorus: Deep Breath
Resonance Women's Chorus' spring concert, Deep Breath, is an invitation to fierce imagination, offering vibrant colors, thrilling musical gestures, hallucinatory sound-clouds, and revelatory moments of harmonic glory, ecstasy, and uplift.

Resonance Women's Chorus sings songs of social awareness. All of our concerts are variations on the theme of paying attention. We take a lot of time learning the music and living with it. Themes are more accurately season-long conversations. Our concerts swim in a mix of the personal and the political--and it turns out that most concerts about paying attention also turn out to be a lot about nature.

The finale of the concert will add the thrill of male choral sound to Resonance's soprano/alto sound in a piece about the fiercest imagination of all.  All of Us is about the power of love to embrace, transform, and lift up. Fifty tenors and basses will join us for a performance of Craig Hella Johnson's All of Us. This is the finale of Johnson's new full-length oratorio, Considering Matthew Shepard, written almost twenty years after the murder of Matthew Shepard outside Laramie, Wyoming. The composer says All of Us is intended to be "a jubilant call to remember the inherent value and radiance in every living being, raising up the voices of all of us, with special attention given to those in our world who have been marginalized, mistreated or simply not seen--a vision for a huge tent, a vibrant declaration of love, celebration, and respect for all beings."

The program includes music by Boulder composer Bill Douglas, Libby Larsen, Joan Szymko, Jocelyn Hagen, Matthew Emery, Connor Koppin, the Wailin Jennys, and more, with settings of poetry by Mary Oliver, Muriel Rukeyser, Rabindranath Tagore, and Ursula Le Guin.

Resonance Women's Chorus is a 125-voice women's community chorus singing contemporary choral music with messages of social awareness. Resonance is directed by Sue Coffee and is based in Boulder, Colorado.
