New York International Vocal Competition Finals
The New York International Vocal Competition has invited twenty-five talented young singers to compete in open auditions at Opera Americas National Opera Center in New York City. The auditions will take place on Saturday, April 14th from 1 until 7 PM.

Singers from all over the world submitted performance videos to a distinguished panel of judges. Twenty-five of these singers have been selected by the judges to compete in New York. They come from eleven countries, including the United States.

Particularly well-represented is China, with sopranos Xueyan Fan, Congcong Wang, Yulan Piao and Meigui Zhang, mezzosoprano Niru Liu and baritone Jianan Huang expected to make the journey from the other side of the world.

South Korea is also invited to send a sizeable delegation, including soprano Meleeyae Kwon, tenor WooYoung Yoon and baritones Daewon Seo and Chonghwa Kim.

European finalists include sopranos Heloise Koempgen-Bramy from France, Nina-Maria Fischer from Germany, Elisabeth Papageorgiou from Greece, Tatiana Poletskaya from Russia and baritone Hubert Zapior from Poland.

From south of the border come tenor Andres Penalver from Venezuela, mezzosoprano Linda Collazo from Ecuador and Puerto Rico, and Sophia Hunt, who calls Brazil as well as the US home.

The United States is also well-represented by tenors Jonathan Tetelman and Matthew Greenblatt, baritone Emmett OHanlon, mezzosoprano Cara Collins and sopranos Shana Grossman, Brooklyn Snow and Lara Lynn McGill.

These singers will compete before a live audience for cash awards and eligibility for professional engagements with Eurasia Festival in New York, Wilmington Music Festival and Clayton Piano Festival in North Carolina. The first place winner will be featured in a solo concert in New York City and will receive a scholarship to the Westchester Summer Vocal Institute at Sarah Lawrence College.

Four distinguished vocal experts are serving as judges for the completion - soprano Christine Weidinger, New York-based voice teachers Sherry Overholt and Arthur Levy, and the competitions co-founder, soprano Nikoleta Rallis.

Miss Weidinger has starred in most of the worlds major opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Liçeo of Barcelona, the Deutsche Oper-Berlin and the Vienna State Opera.

Dr. Sherry Overholt also enjoyed a distinguished career as an operatic soprano before opting to teach and coach young singers. She serves on the faculty at SUNY-Purchase as well as at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. She is artistic director of the Westchester Summer Vocal Institute.

Arthur Levy, after a career as a tenor soloist in opera and oratorio, established himself as one of the most in-demand voice teachers in the country. He is on the faculty at SUNY-Purchase as well as at the Mannes School of Music. He is also a coach and instructor for the Metropolitan Operas Lindemann Young Artists Development Program and maintains a private studio in New York, which includes several internationally celebrated singers.

The fourth member of the judges panel is the co-founder of the competition, rising star soprano Nikoleta Rallis. Miss Rallis holds vocal performance degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and the Brooklyn College-Conservatory of Music. She is also president of the sponsoring Olympia Arts and of the Wilmington Music Festival in North Carolina.

Artistic advisor and business manager for the competition is concert pianist Aza Sydykov. Sydykov is a graduate of Moscows prestigious Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music and of the Mannes School. He has performed as a soloist and accompanist across Europe, Asia and the United States.

This newly established competition seeks to provide innovative and exciting avenues to successful careers for aspiring professional singers from around the world.
