ABOUT MARGOT ROI
Vocalist Margot Roi is the recent winner of the "Admiral Music 2012 New Jazz Competition". Born in Hamilton and now living in Toronto, she studied both Fine Arts and Music at the Universities of Windsor, Toronto and York. Margot made her mark initially as a visual artist but her love of live performance directed her to a change of heart. Beginning with a singer-songwriter approach her ability to infuse pop, roots, blues into jazz become her strength. She further studied vocal music with The Academy of Canadian Vocals, The Toronto Singing Studio, Bob Mover and Mitch Seekins.

This change of heart led Margot to be selected for the CMW 2012, NXNE, and The Barrie New Music Jazz Showcases, "The Best Female Jazz Artist 2008 Award" from the Toronto Exclusive On-Line Magazine. Margot has been given an award by the Billboard World Song for one of her originals and been included in the CD Compilation "Songs of Canada 2012: (Anthology of Canadian Songwriters)". She has been interviewed live on CIUTFM-Take 5, CKMSFM Jazz and WRHC's Jazz & More.

Margot has performed in many venues including Toronto's, Trane Studio, Old Mill, Flying Beaver Pubaret, Cucci's, Absolute Lounge, Gladstone Hotel, Gate 403 and the Reservoir Lounge, as well as The Rex Hotel, and Hart House. She has also been a featured performer at the Hamilton Staircase Theatre, Brantford Sanderson Jazz Concerts, Halliburton Summer Concerts, SDS Association Gala, Oakville Women's BA Gala, and OSEA Conferences. Margot Roi has also performed in many festivals included: Burlington Sound of Music, Downtown Toronto Jazz, Downtown Oakville Jazz, Downtown Milton, Picking Jazz, Hamilton Mustard Fest and Junction fest.

Margot's current CD release "A Place for Me" is an eclectic collection of jazz, pop, roots and original songs that approach the subject of love from every possible perspective. Margot arranged traditional and contemporary standards including; the Beatles, Gordon Lightfoot, Cole Porter to reflect her diverse musical nature. Margot is recording her new release now featuring more originals, songs of Nick Drake, Jane Siberry, John Martyn, Elton John and more.
