AWAKE ZION w/"Berale, Berale" (short) & "Matisyahu" (short) 3:00 MUSICAL PROGRAM BY GELFILTOFFICIAL, JEWISH HIP-HOP 3:30 FILM
Director: Monica Haim Country/Year: Jamaica/US/Israel 2003 Language: English, Patois Running Time: 45 min. Format: BetaSP
Have you ever wondered about Bob Marley's passionate references to Zion and Jerusalem or Rastafarian's kinship to the Star of David? AWAKE ZION is a documentary about these unexpected cultural convergances. The film examines the modern-day cultural world of Jewish reggae on US radio, in Jamaica - the birthplace of reggae and Rastafarianism - and in Israel, where Ethiopian Jewry and a small, sizzling reggae scene thrive and reggae is a healing agent for Israel's war-torn reality. Through interviews, music, history, travel and performance, AWAKE ZION connects two communities seemingly on opposite ends of the spiritual spectrum
