MJFF - Monkey Business: The Adventures of Curious George's Creators Sun 3-18 2:30 PM The Strand, Rockland
Documentary / Dir:Ema Ryan Yamazaki / Narrator Sam Waterston / USA / 2017 / 81 min
Was Curious George almost a Holocaust victim? The surprising answer is yes. It has been 75 years since Curious George first touched the hearts and minds of children around the world. Still, little is known about his creators, Hans and Margret Rey - until now. German Jews living in Paris during the rise of Nazism, the couple narrowly escaped Hitlers troops by fleeing on makeshift bicycles - carrying the yet-to-be-published Curious George manuscript with them. Lovers of this classic will revel in the beautiful animation and archival materials from the Rey estate, including wartime journals, photographs, letters, and unpublished Curious George sketches and notes.
"The genius of integrating Jacob Kafka's charming animation makes (the film) extra special" Common Sense Media
