Ferguson 365: An Exclusive Screening and Q&A with Filmmaker Chris Phillips and ArchCity Defenders
KDHX, ArchCity Defenders, and Maverick Media Group present an exclusive screening of Ferguson 365 and Q&A with filmmaker Chris Phillips and ArchCitys Executive Director Blake Strode about the underlying and unlawful policies and practices in St. Louis that not only devastated thousands of families but sparked an ongoing movement for civil rights.
Ferguson 365 looks at the divided suburb of Ferguson's explosive response to the death of an unarmed African-American teenager, Michael Brown Jr., shot by a local cop. With a unique local's viewpoint providing unprecedented access, Chris reveals the untold perspective of Ferguson natives and the wedge separating them from local law enforcement and government, while following the Black Lives Matter Movement across the country. Ferguson 365 is a five-time award winning short documentary film directed and produced by Chris Phillips, a St. Louisan and filmmaker whose curiosity about people and pursuit of justice is unparalleled.
This special screening falls on the three year anniversary that ArchCity Defenders, SLU Law Legal Clinic and Civil Rights Corps filed a federal class action lawsuit against the City of Ferguson and the City of Jennings for illegally jailing poor people and black people solely because of their poverty. While the Jennings case settled in 2016 for $4.75M, thousands of class members in the Ferguson case are still awaiting relief. Beyond Ferguson, ArchCity Defenders has similar cases pending against Maplewood, Florissant, St. Ann, and 12 other municipalities in the region.
Dont miss this unique opportunity to see Ferguson 365 and be part of an engaging conversation on issues impacting communities throughout St. Louis.
