To kick off San Pedro's 125th Anniversary, The San Pedro Historic Waterfront District and The Office of Councilman Joe Buscaino are hosting a Living Treasures Dinner & Show to honor and share the stories of some of San Pedro's oldest residents. In addition to an amazing line up of entertainment, there will be a visual tribute of San Pedro's most fascinating residents featuring historical photos, trivia and costumes from the early 1900s.
A Living Treasure is someone who has spent a majority of his or her years in San Pedro and has lived an extraordinary life. This person has contributed to the community unselfishly or simply has a wonderful story to tell about growing up during the early days of San Pedro.
The Historic Waterfront District issued a Call for Entries to invite residents eighty-five years or older to share their fondest memories of growing up or working in San Pedro. From these entries, specific residents were selected to share their stories on March 1st. The honorees include:
*Anne Gusha, age 93 *Florence Collins, age 99 *Goldeen Kaloper, age 96 *Harry Hall, age 99 *Helen DiMaggio, age 94 *Jean Wilder, age 85 *Joe Marino, age 85 *Kuzma "Matty" Domancich, age 90 *Muriel Olguin, age 89 *Nicoletta "Nikky" Troy, age 89 *Thelma Gatlin, age 88
The Living Treasures Dinner & Show will feature delightful tunes from the 1920s and 1930s by Janet Klein and Her Parlor Boys, "Dancing through the Decades" performance by the People's Place Dance and Fitness Studio, and a living history tribute.
As part of the 125th celebration, The Historic Waterfront District is planning a two-day 125th Summer Festival to be held August 3 & 4, 2013 in Historic Downtown San Pedro. The Festival will include two stages of live entertainment, a children's parade, carnival and a craft beer and wine tasting area.
As part of the two-day festival, The Historic Waterfront District will be adding more Living Treasures to honor and share their stories, so if you know of individuals who are 85 years and older and have spent a majority of their years in San Pedro, please email Joleen at sanpedro125event@gmail.com.
