Sage Hill School's 12th Annual Multicultural Fair
Go Around The World Without Leaving Orange County
Sage Hill School will open its campus to the community for a day of food and festivity at the 12th Annual Multicultural Fair on Saturday, March 23, 2013. Between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., the Newport Coast hillside will transform into a global village as an expected 1,000+ visitors enjoy two dozen authentic international food booths, lively cultural entertainment, an ethnic bazaar, service learning, live craftwork by local artisans, and hands-on children's activities.
Our Kids' Zone will nearly double in size this year to include fun activities for a wide age range, from renowned candy artist Shan the Candy Man, to a Passport that kids can fill with collectible stamps as they tour the various food and exhibit booths. The ever-popular henna tattoos and face painting will add to the colorful scene. Also emerging this year is the new Artisans' Village, where visitors can see cultural artifacts spring to life in real time at the hands of local experts. A vibrant ethnic bazaar will beckon with bargain-priced souvenirs of the day's journey.
A visit to the Multicultural Fair is like traveling the world without leaving Orange County. The sights, smells, sounds, and tastes of the continents will delight the senses. The event will feature a continual lineup of entertainment that celebrates music and movement from around the globe as well as America's own cultural heritage. Student and faculty performers will be joined by professional artists from the extended community for a lineup that includes:
*Dancers and music from Aztec, Chinese, Flamenco, Hip Hop, Indian, Korean, and Persian traditions
*Culturally authentic instrumental arrangements from Africa, the Andes, and the Middle East
*Vocalists ranging from American folk, jazz and Motown to classical arias and more
Visitors can stroll along the plaza of international food booths, where freshly prepared tastings from India, Japan, Korea, and Persia will tempt fair-goers alongside delicacies from France, Greece, Israel, Italy, and Spain. Save room for a treat from the "Desserts Around the World" booth, inspired by faraway lands such as Ghana and New Zealand. Among the delicious food options will be specialties from the restaurant kitchens of Romeo Cucina, Sapphire Laguna, and Sweet and Saucy Shop.
Admission to the fair is $7 at the door with children 5 and under admitted free. Food tickets, sold on site, are $1. A portion of the proceeds benefits Sage Hill's Financial Aid Endowment Fund.
