EAR CANDY at NOVEMBERFEST
BOHDAN PIASECKI is a hugely talented, warm and funny poet from Poland based in Birmingham. He has taken his poems from the upstairs room in an Eastbourne pub to the main stage of the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, from underground Tokyo clubs to tramways in Paris, from a bookshop in Beijing to an airfield in Germany, from niche podcasts to BBC Radio. In the UK, he regularly features at the countrys most exciting spoken word nights, festivals, and readings. He enjoys the creative chaos of big field festivals just as much as the composed concentration of literary events. Bohdan went down a storm at Volcano Fridays earlier this year and we are chuffed to bits to welcome him back for Novemberfest.
"Growing up in Poland informs a lot of Bohdans poetry, which is wrought with emotion and beauty consistently. His work is quietly devastating: from poems about his sister, to rap music, to the difficulty of growing up under a decaying Communist rule, Bohdan is able to make his audience laugh and cry within a few minutes." Blogfest Birmingham
GECKO is a North London based artist. His playful lyrics cover the big things in life: think Grant Mitchell, Libraries and Guanabana fruit juice, to name but a few. Gecko has previously appeared at Glastonbury and Bestival, and on BBC Radio 1, 6 Music & BBC London. In August 2016 he took his debut hour 'A Lizard Goes a Long Way' to the Edinburgh Fringe. He has shared stages with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Robin Ince, Josie Long, John Hegley and Billy Bragg.
'It made me instantly happy when I heard it' Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 1
"Raising a laugh and a lump in the throat all at once is a good trick possibly the best. Gecko makes it look easy. A gifted young comic songwriter with charm and style to spare...what sets him above many of his contemporaries is his restlessly inventive approach to character. One song offers what may well be the defining chorus of a generation." Broadway Baby
BRYONY SIER is a young singer-songwriter and guitarist from South Wales. Her aunt started teaching her guitar when she was twelve and she has been in love with the instrument ever since. She's inspired by Johnny Cash, Bobbie Gentry, Buddy Holly, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Jake Bugg and Ben Howard. Bryony loves all kinds of music, but her favourite genres are country, blues and gospel.
"Bryony cuts a slight and delicate figure, practically dwarfed by her big ol dreadnought guitar, but when she started to play she grew in stature until she filled the room; heads turned, eyes widened and ears opened like flowers. Theres always something wonderfully compelling and a little bit magical about seeing someone whos capable of captivating human beings at this level [...] its not the sort of thing that can be faked [...] you either have it, or you dont; she has it."
