Cult of Orpheus: The Emerald Tablet
The music of Portland composer/poet Christopher Corbell will be performed with a variety of texts. Two works will be premiered: The Emerald Tablet (based on an ancient mystical text) for vocal quartet and string quartet, and Daphne (an opera miniature). The concert will also include "Give them space", a work for string quartet commissioned for the 100th anniversary of Portland's Keller Auditorium, and a preview of music from the forthcoming two-act opera Antigone and Haimon.
This concert will feature the singing of several Portland luminaries:
Jocelyn Claire Thomas, soprano Damien Geter, baritone Sadie Gregg, mezzo-soprano Rachel Hauge, mezzo-soprano Joe Soto, tenor
Instrumentation will include a string quartet, winds, and percussion. This is a one-of-a-kind musical event!
