Les Quatre Saisons by Boismortier
Ensemble Musica Humana founded and has been hosting Pioneer Valley Early Music Day in Western Massachusetts since 2015. EMH is presenting a kick-off concert of French Baroque music by Joseph Bodin de Boismortier. "Les quatre saisons" (the four seasons) includes four solo cantatas, each represented by a solo voice (two sopranos, a tenor and a baritone) on the subject of one of the four seasons. Often the voice is in duo or trio with other solo instruments (flute, recorder). Themes explored include the delights of love, the trials of work, the joy of relaxation and celebration, and yearning of spring.
