Man Up is held on occupied Indigenous land belonging to the Coast Salish Peoples. This includes the territories of the Musqueam, Skxwú7mesh-ulh, Stó:lo & Tsleil-Waututh nations. In recognition of this, and of the historical and ongoing genocide against the Indigenous Peoples of this land, we (settlers/occupiers) will be donating a portion of proceeds from each of our events to Indigenous Self-Determination work.
Man Up, like many dance and queer parties, considerably consumes Black music and culture, yet Black communities often go unrecognized for these contributions. In recognition of this, and of the ongoing violent oppression of Black communities in Canada and everywhere, we will be donating a portion of proceeds from this event to local Black activism.
THE BUDDY SYSTEM: The Buddy System is a grassroots effort to combat rape culture and enhance the safety of our queer events. CONSENT IS SEXY -- AND MANDATORY! Oppressive attitudes and behaviour -- including but not limited to misogyny, transphobia, racism, fatphobia, and ableism -- are not welcome here. The Buddy System will be in effect at Man Up Pride. Buddies will be wearing **NEON T-SHIRTS and GLOW BRACELETS ON BOTH WRISTS**. Our Buddies are NARCAN trained (Narcan treats opiate overdose), and carry sealed water bottles, condoms and dental dams, lube, granola bars, tampons, and more. They will run interference if someone is receiving unwanted attention, and generally serve as go-to support people should any problems arise.
ACCESSIBILTY SUMMARY: The entrance to the venue is at street level with no lip. There is no room for comfortably parking a wheelchair/scooter. Seating consists of hi-top tables and bar stools. There is one fully wheelchair accessible, single stall washroom (BACK FROM A RECENT OUT-OF-ORDER HIATUS). Access requires requesting a key from the back (west) bar. Washroom doorway is 35" and the room measures 6' x 8'4". There is a wall-mounted wash basin with lever faucets. The other two washrooms each have entrances 26" wide. They are both marked gender neutral on queer nights (and are unmarked on non-queer nights). Of these two washrooms, which are both gender neutral, the one beside the stage (with urinals) is somewhat more accessible with a stall that measures 5' long by 3' wide with an inwards swinging door and a wall-mounted sink at least 28" high. The opposite washroom (without urinals) has a somewhat accessible stall, about 5' by 3', with an inward-swinging door. The new adjacent venue space, The Boxcar, which is usually open on Man Up nights, has two single stall washrooms. They are not wheelchair accessible. Cobalt staff and Man Up organizers will be available to assist with any disability concerns at the event. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact Man Up at manupdrag@gmail.com. A detailed accessibility audit conducted by Ryn Broz and Pussy Liquor for RAMP Accessibility Project is available here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VAPSMcFUPQTfw8JygN06Uy4yv-6FpPcjuE3CAOXWAY4/edit#gid=0 If you would like an audit conducted please contact rampvancouver@gmail.com.
