Jeremy Scott Ragsdale (b. April 30th, 1982) is an American jazz singer, pianist and vocal arranger. He is an alumnus of New England Conservatory, and 2005 graduate of Berklee College of Music, where he received the Berklee voice program's two highest merit-based scholarship awards.
As a member of the vocal jazz group "Syncopation", Ragsdale released the album "Of Blue" under Geneon Entertainment (Japan). Syncopation toured Japan numerous times, and released a music video for their single, entitled "I Can Fly". Syncopation has also appeared domestically at the Boston Globe Jazz & Blues Festival, Tri-C Jazz Fest, two IAJE conventions, and the 2008 Harmony Sweepstakes finals.
In 2003 and 2004, Jeremy was a backup singer for Grammy nominated recording artist Patti Austin on her Ella Fitzgerald tribute tour. He ultimately became the arranger for the background vocalists, writing vocal parts based on the arrangements on her "For Ella" album. In 2011, Ragsdale performed as a background vocalist for George Benson and the National Symphony Orchestra Pops.
From 2006-2011, Mr. Ragsdale served as the Vocal Jazz Director at Towson University, where he directed both the Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the Pop Music Ensemble. He has been a coach for college and professional-level a cappella groups across the country, and still appears frequently as a choral clinician and arranger for high school vocal ensembles. Ragsdale presented a lecture on Vocal Jazz rehearsal techniques at the 2009 ACDA Voices United Convention in Virginia.
Jeremy Scott Ragsdale is proud to be on the voice faculty at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, where he directs The Phases Vocal Jazz Ensemble, various vocal improvisation classes, and several private voice lessons in all contemporary genres. He has also been an online instructor through Berkleemusic.com, and a freelance transcriptionist for groups including the Boston Pops, Rockapella, and the Dropkick Murphys.
