Th Sound of the Northwest celebrates 30 years of offering hope and inspiration through the Negro Spiritual.
This is a celebration of 30 years during which this community chorus has brought tears to the eyes, a clap to the hands, and joy to the hearts of audiences throughout the Pacific Northwest with its a capella performances of Negro Spirituals and songs in the spiritual style. This special concert will include the new teen-aged chorus of SeattleJazzEd, a Seattle nonprofit that provides quality music education and opportunities for youth in underserved communities in the Greater Seattle area. Plus, the concert will include a mass choir of local singers directed by special guest Dr. Ysaye Barnwell, arranger and long-time "bass" voice of the internationally acclaimed female a capella ensemble, Sweet Honey in the Rock. Mass choir participants will be attendees at a 6-hour (two evenings) pre-concert workshop conducted by Dr. Barnwell The workshop is open to all.
