Being Moved: Timsila & the Cypress Tree
Timsila & the Cypress Tree is the dance progeny of Being Moved, a nine week Butoh Performance intensive with choreographer Meshi Chavez.
At the heart of this novel project are non- professional dancers who take up the challenge to dance original choreography, showcasing their courage, curiosity, and singular determination on stage. The Being Moved participants bring an enthusiastic and courageous willingness to explore unknown territory. In doing so, they cannot help but be transformed by the process. Inspired by Zen koans and Lakota creation stories, Timisila & The Cypress Tree creates unexpected scenes, of the human condition and the unseen worlds of spirit that encourage us along our journey.

Choreographer bio:
Meshi Chavez is a dancer, teacher and choreographer. He is co-founder of Momentum Studio on SE Water Ave, where he teaches weekly classes. Meshi teaches Butoh and other forms of movement based workshops in the United States and throughout Europe. His mentors include Toronto based Choreographer Denise Fujiwara, and Japan's Natsu Nakajima. His most recent collaboration includes teaching alongside American author and theologian Matthew Fox.
