The Last Crop Screening with Director Chuck Schultz
3 Minute Trailer from Chuck Schultz on Vimeo.
Join filmmaker Chuck Schultz in a screening of his 74 minute work-in-progress followed by a discussion about the film and the future of our nation's working local farms.
Seven out of ten of all U.S. farms will change hands by 2030 as its aging farmers face retirement. What will become of their farms? Who if anyone will farm them?
Set in California's Central Valley The Last Crop draws upon the emotions and deep values of family farmers Annie and Jeff Main's struggle to save their farm's future to address two of the most important challenges of our time: the sustainability of our food system and the existence of the very farms that are at its foundation. Development looms. Children leave. Ideals questioned. Legacy uncertain.
"The story is compelling and timelyActivity involving the different generations on the Main's farm makes this a story for all ages." Michael Isip, V.P. TV KQED San Francisco
"Mr. Schultz understands how to convey the complex issues of farmland preservation in a way that inspires. Farmland preservation efforts need this kind of new media to reach a broad and wide audience." Serena Unger, Food System and Planning Consultant
"It is an important documentary contribution to a national discussion that too often lacks balance between facts and emotions." Dr. Thomas Tomich Director UC Davis' Agricultural Sustainability Institute.
