A MESSAGE FROM NANCY WHITE
Hello/bonjour!
People have been asking me, upon learning that I'm going back to do another show at the Flying Beaver Pubaret, about the dress code.
"Must we wear gowns and dangerous heels?" they say (a bit hopefully, actually). I say "hell no, fellows and gals - let's keep this beachwear thing going as long as possible."
Of course the Pubaret is in the sophisticated Parliament/Carlton neighbourhood. But our show is the early one. 7 p.m. - practically a matinee! I don't know if Heather the proprieter/bartender will still have summer drinks available, but it's entirely possible.
I'll be doing one long set, with the luminous Ghislain Aucoin on keyboard. (I'll play guitar on a couple of numbers, but I promise not to solo.)
The show will be, well I hate to say fluffy, but it'll certainly be light, although I may do that "Forty-one Kilogram Cyst" song that annoys some people, and I'm singing Ron and Connie Hynes' song "If You Let Me Go I'll Fall" - which is about an extremely uncomfortable domestic situation. And maybe "Mitterand's Last Meal", which is a little sinister.
I'm thinking I should counteract fun songs like "Nancy White's Polka" and "In the Regions" with a tough, bleak number, so I'm working on "The Hard Canadian" by Gord Downie. (It's creepy, but I love itl)
